Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Patriots, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. However the rest shakes out, Amegadjie at that price is a win they earned. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots went begging.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a home-run threat at receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
J.J. McCarthy at pick 34 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Kiran Amegadjie was the payoff at the 68th pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Malachi Corley in the Round 3 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went OLB-EDGE with Javon Solomon while clear needs at interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots sat open.
Good price on Grayson Murphy in the 172nd overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Michael Barrett at par in Round 6, Pick 7, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Sheridan Jones in No. 224 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Brevyn Spann-Ford slipping to the 232nd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
