The rest of the league will want that one back. Brashard Smith tumbling to the Cowboys in the 149th overall pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
Riley has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get an anchor for the defensive front. A real need, handled.
Will Campbell in pick 42 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jake Majors at Round 3, Pick 11 is the proof. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Taking Brashard Smith in pick No. 149 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ar'maj Reed-Adams at slot 169 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fair-plus on Jack Bech, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let a linebacker like Deontae Lawson reach the Round 5 slot and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Quincy Riley in the 186th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Gunnar Helm at pick 209 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
