There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chargers started one anyway for Bryce Boettcher, 53 picks ahead of schedule. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. The Bain Jr. pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 16 they get a bendy edge with upside, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Caleb Banks at par in pick 44, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
By-the-book stuff, Chase Bisontis at the 55th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Daylen Everette at the 89th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Bryce Boettcher at the Round 4 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A straight-up fair deal on Oscar Delp at Round 4, Pick 29, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
VJ Payne at the Round 6 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
