The Jets bet big and early on Dominic Zvada, 59 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
Slaughter at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

In pick No. 2 they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick 16 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Nice patience on Sonny Styles, who had no business lasting to the 33rd overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A tidy bit of business in the 44th pick, where Chris Johnson graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jake Slaughter at No. 103 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They went early on Drew Allar in slot 140, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Caleb Douglas slipping to the 179th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Zavion Thomas in Round 7, Pick 12 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Dominic Zvada at No. 242, and the board is aghast. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
