The war room fell hard for Dominic Zvada, and it showed at No. 242: 59 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
With cornerback, edge rusher and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 12 they get a featured back, outstanding value to boot.
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get the heartbeat of the defense, and a steal at that. More want than need.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went linebacker with Sonny Styles while clear needs at cornerback, edge rusher and other spots sat open.
Denzel Boston at the 44th overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
They will replay Chase Bisontis at pick No. 92 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They went early on De'Zhaun Stribling in No. 103, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Jakobe Thomas at par in the 140th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A conviction pick on Taylen Green at pick 179 that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zavion Thomas at slot 228 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dominic Zvada in the 242nd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
