The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Jowon Briggs, 46 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
They banked enough surplus on Watson to cover a lot of smaller sins. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 29 they get a lockdown presence outside, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Junior Colson in No. 73 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Christian Mahogany in the 87th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
KT Leveston at the 174th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jowon Briggs well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Nathaniel Watson all the way to pick No. 233, and they scooped it up. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Trey Taylor still on the board at slot 244. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
