There is a lot to like until you notice wide receiver is still a hole. The Chargers never got to the one that mattered most.
Randolph Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Magee.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 20th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Kris Jenkins at par in Round 2, Pick 20, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick 69 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It fills a real need, too.
Zak Zinter at the 84th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They did well to land Tyler Davis in No. 105, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A conviction pick on Keith Randolph Jr. at slot 142 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Theo Johnson at pick No. 144, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Michael Barrett in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board had Jordan Magee higher than the 226th pick, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
