The rest of the league had time to spare on Benjamin Morrison; the Patriots did not wait, grabbing him 94 spots ahead at pick 105.
Getting Barron where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 4 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Luther Burden III in slot 36 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Jahdae Barron at the 68th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Tyler Warren was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Benjamin Morrison at the 105th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board fumbled Devin Neal all the way to Round 5, Pick 4, and they scooped it up. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Will Howard. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Taking Miles Frazier in pick 224 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They reached a country mile for Tim Smith at Round 7, Pick 27, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
