The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Commanders watched Smael Mondon Jr. slide 96 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. The Trapilo pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 29 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Isaiah Bond at slot 61 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Ozzy Trapilo in pick 79 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dylan Sampson in the 148th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They robbed the room for Smael Mondon Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid sticker price for Miles Frazier in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
