Every other box got a look, but cornerback did not. The Commanders will head to camp with the same hole they walked in with.
They will need Wilson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Rice. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Johnny Wilson at Round 2, Pick 5 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Sedrick Van Pran in slot 62, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Troy Fautanu in the 76th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board had Brenden Rice higher than No. 100, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good price on Junior Colson in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They took Ben Sinnott at par in the 149th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A conviction pick on Bryson Nesbit at pick 190 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A tidy bit of business in the 233rd pick, where Taulia Tagovailoa graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
