Thirty-one other rooms let Jaylin Simpson slide, and the Chargers were the ones holding the card at pick No. 225. Highway robbery. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B+.
J.J. McCarthy is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The phones were where this weekend was really won.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.

Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick No. 5 they get a security blanket over the middle. A real need, handled.
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get their quarterback of the future, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
Kool-Aid McKinstry at slot 37 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Blake Corum at pick 75 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kiran Amegadjie at the 105th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Renardo Green in pick No. 110 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
James Williams slipping to No. 140 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor need, but a need all the same.
By-the-book stuff, Fabien Lovett at the 181st overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Jaylin Simpson still on the board at the Round 7 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nice patience on Keaton Bills, who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. The roster fit checks out.
