Everything else got attention, and edge rusher got none. That is a strange way for the Packers to leave a draft.

Reaching for Hicks left real value on the table behind him. On value alone, Watts makes the weekend a net positive.

They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. Their trades came out a wash either way.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 23
In pick 25 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Jaden Hicks · S · rank 62
A real head-scratcher, Jaden Hicks in the 41st overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A minor itch, scratched.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Ruke Orhorhoro · DT · rank 61
They paid sticker price for Ruke Orhorhoro in Round 2, Pick 26, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at pick No. 88, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 97
Roger Rosengarten at No. 91 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 123
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jarrian Jones in the 126th pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Myles Harden · CB · rank 168
Myles Harden at the Round 5 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R6.27 · Pick 202 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 205
By-the-book stuff, Edefuan Ulofoshio at slot 202 squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Trey Taylor · S · rank 230
A conviction pick on Trey Taylor at pick 219 that the board grades a round light. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
R7.4 · Pick 224 · Logan Lee · DL · rank 242
They talked themselves into Logan Lee at No. 224, and the board did not agree. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.17 · Pick 237 · Kendall Milton · RB · rank 245
The board had cheaper options than Kendall Milton at Round 7, Pick 17, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Ryan Watts · CB · rank 233
A slide stopped in the 245th overall pick, with Ryan Watts worth more than the price. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Frank Crum · OT · rank 254
No drama and no debate, Frank Crum went about where he belonged in pick No. 255. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Jalen Sundell · OT · rank 277
Jalen Sundell at the 256th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.39 · Pick 257 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 269
They paid up for Frank Gore Jr. at the Round 7 slot when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
