You could see the war room lean forward. Kyle McCord at the Round 5 slot is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Reaching for Travis left real value on the table behind him. The Jonathan Taylor deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Matthew Golden and all.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Matthew Golden · WR · rank 12
In the 14th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 16
They robbed the room for Tyler Warren here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Tyleik Williams · DT · rank 42
They barely believed it either: Tyleik Williams still on the board at pick No. 76. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.16 · Pick 80 · Quinshon Judkins · RB · rank 67
Value with a capital V on Quinshon Judkins in the 80th pick, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Emery Jones Jr. · OT · rank 124
Emery Jones Jr. in No. 150 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.13 · Pick 152 · Jordan Phillips · DT · rank 109
Steal is underselling it; Jordan Phillips at pick 152 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Kyle McCord · QB · rank 119
Kyle McCord in Round 5, Pick 31 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Dorian Strong · CB · rank 163
A tidy bit of business in the Round 5 slot, where Dorian Strong graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.35 · Pick 174 · Upton Stout · S · rank 180
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Upton Stout. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R6.12 · Pick 190 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 182
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jay Higgins at the Round 6 slot is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.33 · Pick 211 · Cam Jackson · DT · rank 220
They went early on Cam Jackson in pick 211, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · Jalen Travis · OT · rank 280
Jalen Travis in Round 7, Pick 31 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
