Green Bay Packers

A solid, sensible weekend for the Packers: B-.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Packers started one anyway for Keilan Robinson, 132 picks ahead of schedule.

However the rest shakes out, McCaffrey at that price is a win they earned. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 25
By-the-book stuff, Kool-Aid McKinstry at pick 25 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 57
A premium they did not need to pay, Kingsley Suamataia a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Brandon Dorlus · DE-EDGE · rank 81
Brandon Dorlus at pick No. 58 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 97
They jumped the gun on Brenden Rice, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 99
They paid a round early for Christian Mahogany in Round 3, Pick 28, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 132
No drama and no debate, Ben Sinnott went about where he belonged in the 127th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 156
Kitan Oladapo in Round 5, Pick 32 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 165
Luke McCaffrey in slot 204 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Elijah Jones · CB · rank 193
Taking Elijah Jones in the 216th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 224
A running back of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Keilan Robinson · RB · rank 383
They reached into another round for Keilan Robinson, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
