The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and MarShawn Lloyd fell into No. 168. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
The cost of the Nourzad reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jordan Morgan at pick No. 41 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Brandon Dorlus at the 57th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Bucky Irving in pick No. 88, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A conviction pick on Khyree Jackson at the 91st overall pick that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, James Williams a notch or two before his time. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Circle this one: MarShawn Lloyd at pick 168 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Curtis Jacobs at Round 6, Pick 28 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Value said wait; Hunter Nourzad in slot 216 says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Nothing to complain about; Brevyn Spann-Ford went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
They paid a round early for Nathaniel Watson in the 251st pick, more than the board wanted. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
