The trade table was where it all came apart. The Commanders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.
They will need Boerkircher to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
On value alone, Hunter makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th overall pick they get a rangy last line of defense at fair value.
They let Lee Hunter come to them and pounced at No. 65. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Elijah Sarratt. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Logan Jones slipping to slot 104 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Isaiah World in Round 4, Pick 32 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nate Boerkircher at the 136th pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
CJ Daniels in pick No. 147 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Domani Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Taylen Green at par in pick No. 187, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A premium they did not need to pay, Kaelon Black a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Noah Whittington at slot 223 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
