The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Nicholas Singleton, Round 7, Pick 34, roughly 145 picks past where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. The White III reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 14th overall pick they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot.
Taking Jalon Walker in the 45th pick is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Alfred Collins slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
They barely believed it either: Jake Majors still on the board at Round 5, Pick 13. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Billy Bowman Jr. at slot 168 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
You do not let a linebacker like Jay Higgins reach pick 170 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
By-the-book stuff, Connor Colby at No. 171 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Ricky White III at pick No. 189 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Joshua Gray in pick 209 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Nicholas Singleton at the 248th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
