The rest of the league will want that one back. Deontae Lawson tumbling to the Patriots in Round 6, Pick 4 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. No fireworks, but a solid B.
If Jones Jr. pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Will Campbell. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Malaki Starks at Round 2, Pick 9 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Xavier Restrepo in pick 44 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value said wait; Emery Jones Jr. in No. 105 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Sebastian Castro at the 114th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for TreVeyon Henderson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Lander Barton in pick No. 148 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Mason Taylor still on the board at the 151st pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Deontae Lawson in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Jonah Monheim at pick 217 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Xavier Nwankpa in pick No. 220 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Miles Frazier reach the 240th overall pick and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Oscar Delp well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ollie Gordon II at slot 247 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
