Somebody in pick 209 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Eagles sat still while Mason McCormick, the No. 152 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C- in the wash.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Reaching for Trotter Jr. left real value on the table behind him. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a ballhawk on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in Round 2, Pick 20 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They liked Calen Bullock enough to skip the value, taking him in the 77th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Brenden Rice at No. 120, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Caedan Wallace at slot 161 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaheim Bell. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Khristian Boyd at pick 172 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Mason McCormick was still sitting there in the 209th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Steal is underselling it; Tahj Washington at No. 210 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
