Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Lions spent pick 128 on Nadame Tucker, a name the board had a full 44 spots lower.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Davis. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 17th pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker. A clean fit for the roster.
Emmanuel Pregnon slid further than he should have, and slot 50 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Genesis Smith higher than pick No. 118, and the safety fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value said wait; Nadame Tucker in pick 128 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let an offensive lineman like J.C. Davis reach the 157th overall pick and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Ephesians Prysock in No. 181; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, VJ Payne at slot 205. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid up for Jaren Kanak at pick 213 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Thaddeus Dixon at Round 7, Pick 6 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
