Washington Commanders

Larceny in No. 91 lands the Commanders a B+, Branch and all.

The board owed the Commanders one, and it paid up: Zachariah Branch, the No. 61 name on the board, sitting there at No. 91 like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.

The cost of the Whittington reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Jermod McCoy · CB · rank 18
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jermod McCoy in the Round 1 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R1.26 · Pick 26 · Sonny Styles · LB · rank 21
In slot 26 they get a green-dot type in the middle at fair value.
R2.7 · Pick 39 · Akheem Mesidor · DL-EDGE · rank 37
They paid sticker price for Akheem Mesidor in pick No. 39, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 55
Jake Slaughter at the 71st pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.27 · Pick 91 · Zachariah Branch · WR · rank 61
Steal is underselling it; Zachariah Branch at the 91st overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.7 · Pick 147 · Malik Benson · WR · rank 144
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 7 with a little surplus value in Malik Benson. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.9 · Pick 149 · Isaiah World · OT · rank 145
Isaiah World at No. 149 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.6 · Pick 187 · Ephesians Prysock · CB · rank 188
A straight-up fair deal on Ephesians Prysock at pick 187, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.28 · Pick 209 · Noah Whittington · RB · rank 224
Noah Whittington at slot 209 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.7 · Pick 223 · Eric McAlister · WR · rank 195
They will replay Eric McAlister at No. 223 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
