There is reaching, and then there is Michael Barrett at No. 171. The Eagles jumped the board by 47 and dared it to prove them wrong.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The Bullock steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a potential shutdown corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A reach for Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 2 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
No drama and no debate, Xavier Worthy went about where he belonged in slot 53. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Calen Bullock at Round 3, Pick 34 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Mason McCormick in No. 160, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A big swing on Zion Tupuola-Fetui at the 170th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Michael Barrett at pick No. 171 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Kendall Milton in the Round 6 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
