After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
Reaching for Jackson left real value on the table behind him. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Guyton in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
D.J. James at the 68th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A premium they did not need to pay, Mohamed Kamara a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Dallin Holker in pick No. 139; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
They reached a country mile for Jha'Quan Jackson at No. 182, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
