Somebody took the Cowboys to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. Every board in the league had Capehart lower, and that gap is the story. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 8 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
In the Round 1 slot they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board had cheaper options than Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 43rd overall pick, and it noticed. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kiran Amegadjie in pick No. 56 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Trey Benson in No. 65 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Brenden Rice at pick 74 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Michael Hall Jr. at the 87th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in Round 4, Pick 24, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board had Kitan Oladapo higher than slot 174, and the safety fell to them anyway. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Myles Jones at pick 212 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A wild overpay on DeMonte Capehart in No. 245, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
