Dallas Cowboys

Barton should have been long gone. The Cowboys pounced, and earned a B.

Call it larceny. Lander Barton sat on the board until the 154th overall pick, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice.

Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Collins reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. The back end got a real overhaul.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · Travis Hunter · CB · rank 3
In slot 26 they get a potential shutdown corner at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 12
Malaki Starks at Round 2, Pick 26 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.26 · Pick 90 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 26
Ashton Jeanty in pick No. 90 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.26 · Pick 122 · Ajani Cornelius · OT · rank 59
Ajani Cornelius at No. 122 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.26 · Pick 154 · Lander Barton · LB · rank 56
Lander Barton at the 154th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.26 · Pick 186 · Alfred Collins · DT · rank 205
They reached into another round for Alfred Collins, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
