The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Jha'Quan Jackson slide 41 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 10 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Adonai Mitchell in slot 34 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Adisa Isaac in the 57th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy little value on Kiran Amegadjie in No. 68, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
By-the-book stuff, Michael Hall Jr. at pick No. 79 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Will Shipley. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ben Sinnott in the 136th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had Jordan Travis higher than Round 5, Pick 32, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They let Kamal Hadden come to them and pounced at the 179th overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They read the board right and Dwight McGlothern was the payoff at the Round 6 slot. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Jha'Quan Jackson at the 219th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Garret Greenfield in slot 231. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Tyler Owens all the way to No. 246, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
