The war room fell hard for Akheem Mesidor, and it showed at Round 6, Pick 16: 142 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
However the rest shakes out, Singleton at that price is a win they earned. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 17 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tate Ratledge in the Round 2 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tez Johnson at the 105th pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Willie Lampkin at No. 143 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Chris Paul Jr. in pick 148 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jimmy Horn Jr.. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Akheem Mesidor at pick No. 191 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Ricardo Hallman at No. 203 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They reached into another round for Shilo Sanders, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Nicholas Singleton was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 4, and they pounced on premier running back value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jack Kiser in pick 241 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
