The Que Robinson selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 121 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
That King pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 4 they get an island corner at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
A tidy little value on Tate Ratledge in No. 38, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Ajani Cornelius in pick 69 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
A real head-scratcher, Elic Ayomanor in the Round 3 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Que Robinson in the 104th pick, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Jake Majors at slot 143 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Shilo Sanders well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kobe King in Round 7, Pick 4 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Somehow Le'Veon Moss was still sitting there in the 238th overall pick, and they pounced on premier running back value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
