After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Commanders committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
The Jones reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They banked enough surplus on Sainristil to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Caleb Williams in slot 2 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for Ladd McConkey in the 36th pick, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Jordan Morgan at the 40th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Nothing to complain about; Kingsley Suamataia went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They did well to land Cade Stover in pick No. 78, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Mike Sainristil was still sitting there in No. 100, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Tommy Eichenberg at par in pick 139, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They paid up for Xavier Thomas at Round 5, Pick 16 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Matthew Jones this early at the 222nd pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
