You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Dixon.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy bit of business in pick 22, where Dallas Turner graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value with a capital V on T.J. Tampa in slot 52, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A clean, defensible pick in the 54th pick with a little surplus value in Jermaine Burton. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 55th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Edgerrin Cooper in Round 2, Pick 25 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Calen Bullock slid further than he should have, and No. 58 is lovely value for the safety. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Darius Robinson at pick No. 120 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Johnny Dixon at the Round 5 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Javion Cohen went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on LaDarius Henderson at pick No. 159, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A slide stopped in pick 172, with Cody Schrader worth more than the price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Roger Rosengarten slipping to the 178th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Javon Baker went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Josh Proctor in Round 6, Pick 9 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaylan Ford at slot 185 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They paid sticker price for Isaiah Williams in the 188th pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Austin Stogner at the 198th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nice patience on Joshua Cephus, who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
