The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Dylan Sampson, the 89th overall pick, roughly 24 picks past where he belonged.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The cost of the Pegues reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They let Jonah Savaiinaea come to them and pounced at pick 58. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Dylan Sampson in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They did well to land Terrance Ferguson in No. 127, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A wild overpay on JJ Pegues in pick No. 167, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They went early on Jackson Hawes in slot 243, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
