You can draft well and still miss the point. The Chiefs did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to tight end, which was the need that mattered most.
Foster at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The Jefferson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a true top target at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Payton Wilson at the 67th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Matt Goncalves in pick 96 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Cole Bishop at pick No. 133 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Javon Foster at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylen Wright at Round 5, Pick 22, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jordan Jefferson at slot 172 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kenny Logan Jr. at No. 210 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Anthony Gould in the Round 7 slot is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
