The trade table was where it all came apart. The Eagles shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. Hard to defend, and the D+ reflects that.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. With edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Laube. The cost of the Wiley reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 16 they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Edgerrin Cooper at pick 43 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A curious use of the 62nd overall pick. Edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Jeremiah Trotter Jr. did not.
Cooper Beebe in slot 76 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
No edge and no loss on Spencer Rattler in Round 4, Pick 19; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Dylan Laube in No. 178, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reach on Jared Wiley in Round 6, Pick 14; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Frank Gore Jr. in slot 240. A need, and now a little less of one.
