The war room fell hard for Jaylen Harrell, and it showed at No. 172: 35 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 18 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Worthy at slot 53 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Theo Johnson. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Kitan Oladapo at No. 161 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaylen Harrell well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A conviction pick on Frank Gore Jr. at the Round 6 slot that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
