The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Barryn Sorrell at the Round 5 slot regardless, 122 picks early. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
However the rest shakes out, Ransom at that price is a win they earned. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Circle this one: Ashton Jeanty at pick 44 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
A tight end of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 12 is the definition of value, full stop. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the 150th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Darius Alexander at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Cooper at No. 172, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; Barryn Sorrell in the 174th pick says they were not listening. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 6, Pick 15 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Lathan Ransom was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A real head-scratcher, KJ Jefferson in pick No. 249 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
