Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Carson Schwesinger got past him. The Cowboys do not have to explain a thing at slot 172.

If Jefferson pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Matthew Golden · WR · rank 43
Matthew Golden at pick 44 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Alfred Collins · DT · rank 56
Somehow Alfred Collins was still sitting there in pick No. 76, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Luke Kandra · OG · rank 115
Luke Kandra in the Round 5 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Trey Zuhn III · OT · rank 206
Trey Zuhn III at slot 170 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Carson Schwesinger · LB · rank 87
Carson Schwesinger at the 172nd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.35 · Pick 174 · Oronde Gadsden II · TE · rank 142
They will replay Oronde Gadsden II at No. 174 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R6.12 · Pick 190 · Jordan Hancock · S · rank 203
The board had cheaper options than Jordan Hancock at the 190th pick, and it noticed. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R6.33 · Pick 211 · Nohl Williams · CB · rank 260
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nohl Williams in slot 211, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · KJ Jefferson · QB · rank 305
Value said wait; KJ Jefferson in the 249th overall pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
