The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Jasheen Davis, 186 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
However the rest shakes out, Bassa at that price is a win they earned. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ashton Jeanty at slot 12 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board fumbled Tyler Warren all the way to Round 2, Pick 12, and they scooped it up. The roster fit checks out.
They liked Aeneas Peebles enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at No. 150 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Jake Majors at the 170th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Barrett Carter at the 172nd overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jasheen Davis at slot 174 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jaylen Reed at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They reached a country mile for KJ Jefferson at Round 6, Pick 33, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Jeffrey Bassa still on the board at pick 249. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
