They banked enough surplus on Mondon Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a workhorse for the backfield, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 2, Pick 12 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tyler Warren in No. 76 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Rylie Mills at pick 150 is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jihaad Campbell at slot 170 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Jake Majors reach pick No. 172 and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Sebastian Castro still on the board at the 174th pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jasheen Davis at Round 6, Pick 12 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor need, but a need all the same.
KJ Jefferson at No. 211 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Smael Mondon Jr. in slot 249 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
