You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Jasheen Davis in the Round 6 slot. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
On value alone, Schwesinger makes the weekend a net positive. A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Steal is underselling it; Tyler Warren at slot 44 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Omarr Norman-Lott in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dont'e Thornton Jr.. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Carson Schwesinger in pick No. 170 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Tyler Cooper at par in the 172nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Oronde Gadsden II still on the board at slot 174. The roster fit checks out.
They reached a country mile for Jasheen Davis at No. 190, and the board is aghast. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jaylen Reed at Round 6, Pick 33 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Trey Wedig in pick 249 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
