The Cowboys bet big and early on Jasheen Davis, 149 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
The Schwesinger steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a workhorse for the backfield at a price that makes it sweeter.
They robbed the room for Tyler Warren here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Walter Nolen in the 76th pick, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaylin Noel at No. 150 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Carson Schwesinger still on the board at slot 170. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They will replay Luke Kandra at pick No. 172 for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They went early on Jaylen Reed in slot 174, and the value did not follow. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid a round early for Jordan Hancock in pick 190, more than the board wanted. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Jasheen Davis at the 211th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
KJ Jefferson at pick No. 249 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
