Dallas Cowboys

No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Jasheen Davis, taking him 185 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

Getting Bassa where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.

On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
Ashton Jeanty slipping to the 12th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Tre Harris · WR · rank 48
Tre Harris at slot 50 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Omarr Norman-Lott · DT · rank 74
Omarr Norman-Lott at the 76th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Carson Schwesinger · LB · rank 87
Circle this one: Carson Schwesinger at Round 5, Pick 11 is a fall that decides a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Tyler Cooper · OG · rank 178
A reach for Tyler Cooper in pick No. 170; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Terrance Ferguson · TE · rank 121
They robbed the room for Terrance Ferguson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The roster fit checks out.
R5.34 · Pick 173 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 145
Robert Spears-Jennings at Round 5, Pick 34 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.35 · Pick 174 · Jasheen Davis · DL-EDGE · rank 359
They reached into another round for Jasheen Davis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R6.12 · Pick 190 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 188
A straight-up fair deal on Jaylen Reed at No. 190, value and slot in agreement. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R6.33 · Pick 211 · Jeffrey Bassa · LB · rank 131
Jeffrey Bassa at pick No. 211 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.34 · Pick 212 · Jalen Travis · OT · rank 289
A big swing on Jalen Travis at slot 212, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · KJ Jefferson · QB · rank 348
KJ Jefferson at the Round 7 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
