Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent pick No. 249 on Akheem Mesidor, a name the board had a full 139 spots lower. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
However the rest shakes out, Knight Jr. at that price is a win they earned. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a lead back with juice at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Taking Tyler Warren in the 44th overall pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Tre Harris was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 12, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Joshua Farmer reach slot 150 and blink. They did not. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A linebacker of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Willie Lampkin in No. 172, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Lathan Ransom in the 174th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
A tidy bit of business in slot 190, where Quincy Riley graded well above the range. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick 211 is a fall that decides a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Akheem Mesidor in the 249th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
