Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Nick Emmanwori, the No. 18 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 172. No fireworks, but a solid B.
If Davis pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 14 they get juice off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Somehow Luther Burden III was still sitting there in the Round 2 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Tyler Warren at the 76th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They robbed the room for Omarion Hampton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It fills a real need, too.
Steal is underselling it; Aeneas Peebles at pick No. 150 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They barely believed it either: Carson Schwesinger still on the board at Round 5, Pick 13. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick 170 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Nick Emmanwori at slot 172 is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
You do not let a safety like Andrew Mukuba reach Round 5, Pick 35 and blink. They did not. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Mello Dotson in pick 190 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jasheen Davis at the 211th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They talked themselves into KJ Jefferson at No. 249, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
