The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Billy Bowman Jr. fell into pick No. 211.
The West pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a double-digit-sack hope at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
A straight-up fair deal on Matthew Golden at the 44th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kaleb Johnson at pick 76 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Carson Schwesinger at No. 150 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Anthony Belton at the 170th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Value said wait; Addison West in pick No. 172 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Joshua Farmer in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Mello Dotson in slot 190 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Circle this one: Billy Bowman Jr. at the 211th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jake Briningstool in slot 249 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
