The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Danny Stutsman, pick No. 170, roughly 86 picks past where he belonged. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
The cost of the Jones reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
The back end got a real overhaul.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get a lockdown presence outside at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Taking Omarion Hampton in pick 44 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They read the board right and Deone Walker was the payoff at the 76th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They reached into another round for Sai'vion Jones, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Jaeden Roberts slid further than he should have, and No. 168 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let a linebacker like Danny Stutsman reach slot 170 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kevin Winston Jr. at the 173rd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Steal is underselling it; Jaylin Noel at Round 6, Pick 11 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They robbed the room for Willie Lampkin here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Somehow Hunter Wohler was still sitting there in slot 247, and they pounced on premier safety value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
