Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys let Shough fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Tyler Shough, the No. 153 name on the board, in the 249th pick.

They are betting Conner proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.

Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Abdul Carter · DE-EDGE · rank 3
A quiet steal in Round 1, Pick 12: Abdul Carter for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Tyler Warren · TE · rank 14
A tight end of that caliber at pick No. 44 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Quinshon Judkins · RB · rank 70
They did well to land Quinshon Judkins in the 76th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.11 · Pick 150 · Tez Johnson · WR · rank 90
They will replay Tez Johnson at No. 150 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.31 · Pick 170 · Jordan Phillips · DT · rank 113
Jordan Phillips in slot 170 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.33 · Pick 172 · Jeffrey Bassa · LB · rank 132
You do not let a linebacker like Jeffrey Bassa reach the 172nd pick and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.12 · Pick 190 · Chase Lundt · OT · rank 173
They let Chase Lundt come to them and pounced at pick 190. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.15 · Pick 193 · Hayden Conner · OG · rank 213
Hayden Conner in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.32 · Pick 210 · Jabbar Muhammad · CB · rank 152
Jabbar Muhammad in the Round 6 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.33 · Pick 211 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 188
Jaylen Reed at No. 211 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R7.31 · Pick 249 · Tyler Shough · QB · rank 153
Tyler Shough in the 249th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
