Good, not great, for the Cowboys: B.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Jeff Sims at No. 247 is 216 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.

Getting Paul Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Quantity was the play, for better or worse.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In the 12th pick they get a lead back with juice, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Emeka Egbuka · WR · rank 27
Emeka Egbuka at Round 2, Pick 13 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.12 · Pick 76 · Kamari Ramsey · S · rank 38
Kamari Ramsey in pick No. 76 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.14 · Pick 115 · Barrett Carter · LB · rank 82
They robbed the room for Barrett Carter here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R5.11 · Pick 148 · Jack Nelson · OT · rank 117
Jack Nelson at pick 148 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.13 · Pick 150 · Maxwell Hairston · CB · rank 97
They will replay Maxwell Hairston at the 150th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Joshua Gray · OG · rank 173
They took Joshua Gray at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Zane Durant · DT · rank 177
Zane Durant in slot 170 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.36 · Pick 173 · Jason Marshall Jr. · CB · rank 135
They barely believed it either: Jason Marshall Jr. still on the board at the 173rd pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Chris Paul Jr. · LB · rank 116
Chris Paul Jr. in No. 186 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Akheem Mesidor · DL-EDGE · rank 338
A big swing on Akheem Mesidor at pick 209, well ahead of any board in the building. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.31 · Pick 247 · Jeff Sims · QB · rank 463
Jeff Sims in Round 7, Pick 31 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
