Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent Round 5, Pick 33 on Collin Oliver, a name the board had a full 110 spots lower. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Mondon Jr.. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 12 they get an every-down engine for the run game, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matthew Golden. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached into another round for Rylie Mills, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They paid a round early for Joshua Gray in slot 148, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Smael Mondon Jr. in Round 5, Pick 31 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Collin Oliver in No. 170, miles early. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Nazir Stackhouse at the 173rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Rod Moore in pick No. 186 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
