The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Barryn Sorrell, 129 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
Mondon Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They barely believed it either: Omarion Hampton still on the board at the Round 2 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They let Deone Walker come to them and pounced at pick 76. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, Barryn Sorrell in pick No. 148 is miles ahead of his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jaeden Roberts is a better player than Round 5, Pick 31 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Smael Mondon Jr. at slot 170 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Lathan Ransom at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Davison Igbinosun in the 186th overall pick, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tonka Hemingway at slot 209 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value said wait; Micah Morris in pick 248 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
