Call it larceny. Cobee Bryant sat on the board until Round 7, Pick 31, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. Martinez has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, and a steal at that. More want than need.
They will replay Tetairoa McMillan at the 44th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Tyler Warren at No. 76 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
Damien Martinez in pick 150 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Steal is underselling it; Rylie Mills at pick No. 170 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Jack Nelson at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Cooper went about where he belonged in the 174th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 190 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They barely believed it either: Jaylen Reed still on the board at the 211th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Cobee Bryant at slot 249 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
